Earlier this week I was able to go over to the Missouri Capitol where they had a traveling display of the Vietnam Memorial. My uncle served there, but I'm not very personally connected to it. Regardless it was an amazing site and very moving. I'm not a fan of war and think we as a country should avoid it as much as we can. This does not however lessen my respect for those who serve and do a job that I could not.
However, I do hope the lessons of Vietnam and Iraq teach us not only about the heroism displayed by those in uniform and those who lost their lives, but also the cost of that sacrifice in the service members who come home. I hope we can continue to work to help them meet their physical and emotional needs when they return and treat them as they deserve.
