There is something about being displaced from the teams and town you love. 85% of the people in my town root for the birds on the other side of the state. They have ALL the baseball heritage, they think we're bandwagon fans, they think we have no tradition. But guess what I DON'T CARE!! I love my team, I love my town, and I love the fans. Guess what, when you go to MY town, the first question they ask you is NOT where you went to high school.
I also love that I have a husband who was raised as one of those die hard bird fans, but because he knows I moved here for him, I get ENDLESS crap for the college team I cheer for, and because he loves good baseball, he's become a Royals fan. And he knew how meaningful it would be for us to go see this together.
Now our traffic plan and travel time didn't get us to the parade route, we opted for the view from the WWI Memorial. I didn't get any actual live shots of players or managers or trucks or confetti. What I got was better. It was the thousands of little moments that we saw with friends, family members, neighbors and just an entire community being truly kind, coming together to celebrate a team. A team that has made people all over realize what a great place Kansas City is to call home...even if you don't get to live there. I LOVED this day because I spent it with someone I love and seeing happiness all around.
